Divorce between Brazil and Switzerland
Since 2016, a simple consensual Swiss divorce can be registered directly at the Brazilian cartório (registry office), without going through the Superior Court of Justice (STJ).

- Original decision with the date it became final, custody decision if needed; via the Swiss embassy, free of charge
- Swiss divorce → Brazil, simple case
- Direct averbação (annotation) at the cartório where the marriage was registered, if the divorce is consensual and only covers the dissolution

- Homologação de sentença estrangeira (approval of a foreign judgment) at the STJ if the judgment covers custody, maintenance or division of assets; a lawyer is mandatory

- Full copy of the judgment, proof of finality, apostille, sworn translation into Portuguese
What we do
We obtain the certificate of finality and the apostille in Switzerland and explain the procedure at the cartório. The sworn translation (tradutor juramentado) usually has to be done in Brazil: we point you in the right direction.
