Making your Swiss divorce valid in another country

Your divorce has been granted in Switzerland, but in your home country you may still be married. To have it registered there, you need a judgment in good order, apostilled and translated.

The documents

  • A copy of the judgment with the certificate of finality, requested from the court.
  • The apostille, issued in the canton of the court: CHF 30 at the Préfecture de Lausanne (Vaud), at the OCPM (Geneva cantonal population office) in Geneva, at the Chancellerie d'État (State Chancellery) in Valais.
  • A certified translation into the language of the country.

Registration or recognition?

Depending on the country, a simple registration is enough (Italy via the municipality or consulate, Brazil at the cartório for a simple consensual divorce, Turkey through an administrative procedure), or court proceedings are required (Portugal, Serbia, Kosovo, Albania, Ukraine, Morocco). See the rules by country.

Our package

CHF 290: requesting the copy with the certificate of finality, the apostille and precise step-by-step instructions for your country. Certified translation according to our rates. If court proceedings are needed in your country, we tell you how to find a local lawyer.
