Divorce between Spain, Italy and Switzerland
For Italy and Spain, a Swiss divorce can often be registered through the consulate, without court proceedings. In the other direction, no divorce is automatically notified to Switzerland.
- Spain → Switzerland
- Judgment with its effective date and certificado literal de matrimonio (full marriage certificate) annotated with the divorce; via the embassy
- Italy → Switzerland
- Original documents less than 6 months old; the procedure must be started by the person concerned
- Switzerland → Spain
- Direct registration by the consular registry if the marriage took place in Switzerland and you are registered with the consulate; otherwise exequátur before a Spanish judge
- Switzerland → Italy
- Transcription by the consulate or the Italian municipality: judgment with certificate of finality and apostille, translation into Italian by a translator on the consulate's list
What we do
We obtain the certificate of finality and the apostille, and prepare the translations. For Italy, the translation usually has to be done by a translator recognised by the consulate: we point you in the right direction.
